#FoodPorn | Food Contribution : Round Up

A few weeks ago, I asked  a favour. To share food recipes for travellers, that are easy and economical to cook. Thank you all who have shared their easy cook recipes.

And yes, I tried a few. So here I am going to share some of those experiments.

La sua Principessa  suggested to Make French Toast.

“Off the top of my head, French toast should be easy to make. All you need is bread, milk, eggs, sugar and if available, some cinnamon powder & vanilla extract. Mix milk, an egg & sugar together, enough to dip and soak in a few slices of bread. And shallow fry until slightly brown on both sides. Tada!”

And Tadaa.. here it goes. The Indian Toast 😉

khichdi is basically just rice+lentils+water boiled together until it becomes thick lol nothing complicated

Rachel M  suggested to make Lentil Soup

Red lentils are very cheap where I live and so I make red lentil soup quite a bit:

So I sort of combined them together.  And made this.

Ady Suggested Oat upma and other varieties of Upma

So I made Rice flakes upma and that too three varieties of them 😉

Now I am an upma specialist. 😉

There are other cool suggestions, that I haven’t tried yet.

Anoop Suggested French toast , Corn flakes/cereals , omelette and toast the bread (on the pan), cooking rice with  some fried lady fingers, fruits (banana) and so on.

“I eat instant oatmeal (plain) and put in a bowl, sprinkle with Cinnamon, put in 2/3 cup spring water, and I use maple syrup, but if there isn’t anything like that, just sweet with fruit. I eat a piece of toast with it, and fruit for after. Takes 5 minutes to fix, and voila. done. You zap it in a microwave for about 1 minute, 30 seconds.”

nerdlovewords suggested a lot of cool stuffs.

“You can make bread pulav. Just cut or tear bread in chunks that are bite sized. Then tamper with Cumin, onion, potato or any other vegetable you want. Add spices, even pickle if you want. I use Sambhar powder. Toss in the bread pieces, and its all done.”

“Well you can make curd sandwich. Instead of going for bread and all those shenanigans, just chop veggies like cucumber, carrot and tomato, season with salt and pepper and beat these into thick curd. It will look like a sandwich spread. Spread it in bread and make a sandwich. Or simply use it as a dip. Low cal, energy boosting, healthy food. ”

“Quinoa is a great protein all by itself, and tastier than oats. you might try carrying some tiny packages of Super Greenfood, you mix it with water, a complete meal.”

Bulldog Travels  suggested Scrambled eggs with bread

“Scramble an egg. Toast some bread with butter (or without). Add some cheese and tomato if you have some and you have a breakfast sandwich. Magic! ”

        you gotten way past the first day, there 🙂

        hmm, egg masala? boil eggs, saute chopped onions, tomato, salt, garam masala. once that is done, remove the egg shell and cut them up into small pieces and add to the masala. enjoy with bread/rotis 😀

        oh btw, have you tried making bread upma?

      1. then der is thalipeeth where you mix jowar flour with small pieces of onion..cut coriander leaves..salt..chilli powder….mix it like we make wheat flour dough..spread some oil on a tawa and place the dough on it… spread it with your hands to the size of a chapati..make 2/3 holes and put some drops on oil in each drop..place the tawa on gas and put a lid..after 2-3 min..remove the lid ..and turn the thalipeeth..done.. tastes good with curd..

  1. Oh my God!! And (maybe) All your Gods!!! :O I will make a true spanish omelette and I will send it to you urgently! Perhaps yours is delicious too but that is not a spanish omelette!! 😦 Dont worry dont worry you! All has a solution in this short life!! 😉

      1. I will have to go! I am very worried about your omelette 😉 hahahahaha I know a place, it is a restaurant in Varkala beach on the clif , its name is Djerling where my friend Vinod and his spanish wife Maria make a good spanish omelette 😉 Mine is much better but this is ok too

    try bread omelette. No it’s not bread and omelette. It’s omelette made with some spices and you drop bread in it. Check it out in YouTube, it’s certainly a jugaad breakfast.

    Also try pasta (macaroni), it’s pretty easy like making maggie 😛

      yea yea.. I know bread omlet. In fact what I posted as French toast is a mini version of that. 😉
      Yea, recently some travellers (couch surfers) made some pasta. its easy to cook.

  3. wow…these do look mouth watering jithin,,way to go…next time making besan ( kadala podi ) dosas.. make a batter with kadala podi, tomatoes,jeera,garlic and onions if you want …and salt…. You can replace kadal podi with atta ( wheat) too !

    1. yea. but it is trial and error method keeps me away from doing that. Somehow I am not confident about preparing the batter. Also its time consuming 😛 You have to make it one by one. I am looking for easy lazy recipes 😉 You have any more? 😉


  4. If you lack a gas stove and have access to an oven – try the omelette 🙂 I use one egg, one/two tbsp of milk, tomatoes, coriander, onions, salt&pepper and shredded cheese. Add anything you may fancy – a few bread crumbs to add texture. And bingo! Depending on power, a couple of minutes should do it 😀

    1. Now I don’t have a gas stove at the moment. Only an induction stove. But I think I can try that. But never heard of adding milk in omelette. Maybe because of poor experience 😉


  5. Omg! Don’t tell me you’ve seriously tried so many recipes on your own, they look delicious and I know they must be similar in taste too. 😉 Great job yaar, I really don’t know when am i coming out from the remorse of losing maggi and try something new. 😛

  6. That omelette looks yum! 😀 I have something for u. Not sure if u have tried it before and it could only qualify as a snack. Crush up the regular kurkure, add some finely chopped onions & tomatoes, lemon juice & tomato sauce. The aroma is heavenly & tastes yum. We used to do this in college after we got fed of plain kurkure. 🙂

I am interested in that upma, oats upma, I tried making upma out of it, only 1ce it tasted good… and I make the worst upma with the rava… well no useful suggestions for me, since I am not a egg eater… good have a nice time experimenting with these things… I wish I had a suggestion too… you can make use of sprouts- wash boil them and then flovour them with salt… I think it is easy to make Pasta though I don’t like it… mix maida and milk, let it thicken add pepper, salt, herbs and add noddles. The noddles need to be par boiled, that is put oil in water and boil water and dip the noddles for 2 minutes till it is par cooked, or if you don’t mind it over softened, no worries(:… anyway what about Puttu and coconut milk???… keralites love those stuff, never had them I guess…anyway…maggi is banned but you can have noodle cake and make something yourself… goodday anyway… I tried making banana pancakes and failed in it because did not reach the right batter consistency but tried bread uttapa, it was yummy and very simple to make…saw that recipe in youtube… https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Yjg-YfVa5Qw…. its easy to make corn salad as well, ones they sell in roads…spinkle salt, lime, butter…anything you like, or just eat the corm like that, juicy nice stuff…

    1. Thank you for the bread uthappam recipe. It was nice. Looks simple too. Just don’t have the blender to make the batter.
      I don’t like Maggie or noodles much. And pasta took a lot of time when I tried. Making puttu is also a lot of work and I don’t have the proper stuff for making it.
