This is the continuation of Curvy road-ride to the Carvings of Cavemen.
So we are continuing the journey. New roads are waiting.

Today we are travelling through this road with heart-shaped shadow. A few meters further we are at the entrance to the cave.
The place is very much motivating. If Anthony Robbins was there, probably he would have given a motivating speech on ‘Nothing is Impossible’. See this and believe

A huge tree has grown on a huge rock!! I know there are plenty of other natural wonders all around us and this is just one among them.
Before we could go inside the cave, we need to get the tickets.

You also need to pay 20 rupees per plastic water bottles if you want to take them inside the cave, but the money is refundable.
The staffs over here are maintaining the place very well. And inside the cave, they explains about the history of the cave and other things.
After this point, stepping stone to success welcomed us.

It was just the beginning. Till the entrance of the cave, they have made steps which makes it easy to go up even for kids and family.

Lets hike up further and farther.

Yes, now we are almost there. A few more steps. If you are exhausted, just in case of lack of physical activity for ages, there is something to motivate you, like what we have seen at the entrance.

Few more steps.

People wanted to make some memories of their journey so far.

And AT LAST.. we are at the entrance of the cave!

Welcome to EDAKKAL caves of Wayanda, Kerala.
The name Edakkal came from a Malayalam word that means ‘stone in between’. There is a huge stone, that rest between two other rocks on top, making it a cave.

This stone is right on top of your head, just saying if the picture doesn’t give the correct three-dimensional feeling.

Now, are you getting the right picture?!!
Well I was kept on saying Carvings in the title. So here it comes.
The Carvings of Edakkal Caves

Lets have another view, if you cant guess it.

Lets have a closer look

They have carved their king on to this rock. There is the front view and back view.
These pictorial writings believed to date to at least 6,000 BC done by Neolithic men. If you want to read more about it, find it on WIKI.
Lets go and see some more views of the cave.

This is the rock on which the cave men carved their thoughts.

A narrow gap is formed by two huge rocks. Cool breeze passes through this gap. A gate is provided to keep people safe from any danger.
So its time to go out and enjoy the beauty of the valley from 1200m above sea level.

How is the view up above the sea level?
What if we could stay in some place surrounded by so much of greenery?

It’s always hard to say be to a place and return, especially from such a beautiful view. But miles to go before the night!

So this is suitable location for one day trip and a cheap travel option. Just need to spend a couple of hundred rupees for to and fro journey. 20 rupees for entry and 30 for camera as shown in the board. Parking charges 20 rupees for 4 wheelers.
The return journey through another curvilicious road and that too in rain!

Not anymore dizzy with the road but those steps and those rocks are something else … glad your country was able to preserve those carvings and people respect and not vandalize it (well it’s too far and too high to be vandals there you think?)
I remember I met someone from Kerala in my last posting he was the head of mission of Oxfam then — all I know is you’re food are spicy, am I right?

Maybe vandals aren’t that determined or exhausted. Or possible blown away by the natural beauty around them! Anyway its protected place now! 😀
Well Yeah, the food is spicy. Surroundings are green and weather is not extreme. Some other facts to add to knowledge.
I was telling some blogger yesterday that these Keralites are everywhere :p

Woah, I had to double look to see the hearts in the shadows there! You’ve really got an eye for beauty! 🙂 honestly, I didn’t get the picture at first; the rock in between thing. And then woaaahhh you took that next picture and the fragile beauty of it struck me speechless! Makes me wonder how a rock got wedged like that, really. And what a view! That crack between the rocks (where the gate is) is a steep fall? The carvings are wonderful. It makes me think of all the languages and stories we’ve lost over time. Any idea what all those carvings mean? There has to be some form of interpretation! :O

Thank you so much again, again and again 🙂 I’ll continue to add in the coming days 😀 Yes, the rock in between thing, I didn’t take a good picture and I had only one picture. they are the wonders of nature! Yea, there is a steep fall in between the gap. Very narrow though. The carvings are really drawing of people, flower etc. You can see a picture of a king(man) if you are able to find.
There is a wiki link. There isn’t much. But you can check.

This is exquisite. What an amazing place! I wonder what it would be like to visit when nobody else was there? What a beautiful ‘secret spot’ it would make. GORGEOUS! And thank you for the tour 🙂

It was a secret spot for a long time until some British officer explored that cave. That experience must be amazing!
Thank you for reading 🙂

I envy you for taki ng such beautiful pics. I couldn’t do so while I visited Lime stone caves at Cherrapunji. I mean I had an average camera and moreover I was not into photography & blogging then. We featured in almost all pics with caves in background…..haha I will try to find out few to share here.

haha.. you used to use the word ‘inspire’ instead of ‘envy’. What happened now ?! 😀
Yea, I agree that sometimes a purpose can make our craft, a better one.

There were so many people from 2014AD, so I wasn’t as lucky as you to enjoy the feel of 6000BC 😀
